About PlainRefund
PlainRefund is a free calculator to estimate your federal and state tax refund in the United States, with plain explanations in English and Spanish. We built it because knowing how much you'll get back shouldn't require tax expertise.
What we offer
- The calculator: enter the numbers from your W-2 and see a federal and state estimate. The math runs on your device.
- News: summaries of notices published by the IRS and state tax agencies, with what they mean for your refund and a link to the official source.
- Guides: simple explanations of where to find your own numbers, such as the boxes on your W-2 or the standard deduction.
- Work (in the app): your state's or city's minimum wage, overtime and leave rules, with links to the official source.
How we make our content
Every news item starts from an official release. Some summaries and translations are generated with AI, and we say so on each article; the link to the original text is always there.
We write the guides ourselves from IRS.gov information and update them when the official figures change.
What we're not
PlainRefund is not a government app: it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the IRS or any federal, state or local agency. We don't prepare or file tax returns, and our estimates are not tax advice.
Who's behind it
PlainRefund is a product of Novema Solutions LLC. For questions, corrections or feedback, email us at support@plainrefund.com.
PlainRefund is free: it's funded by ads and some affiliate links, which we always label. That never changes the calculations or what the guides say.
How much will you get back?
